Antipsychotics Please

Good thing Brett comes home in just three more days, becuase I might be starting to lose my mind (as evidenced in the photos below). I just finished some aprons I've been working on, and I thought I would take a few pics of them before I give them away. Needless to say, I got a little carried away with my self timer!
Please pretend you can not see my cluttered scrapbook room in the background.

After all these pics, I decided I needed to put the aprons through a test run. And I was craving chocolate.
So even if I am going crazy, at least I can entertain myself, right?!

65 Questions You've Never Been Asked

I got this in my email and thought it would make a fun blog post. Basically, it's a whole lot of NOTHING! So don't read on if you have ANYTHING better to do with your time.

1. First thing you wash in the shower? My hair. Probably because it is normally the dirtiest part of my body. I try not to wash my hair often (it's not good for it), so when I do, it definitely needs it. :)

2. What color is your favorite hoodie? I love hoodies! Actually, I love anything PJ's, so to pick just one would be horrible. Maybe the black, purple, and hot pink Hurley one, or the gray and brown Abercrombie one?

3. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again? Of course! Only one more week till he gets home!! My lips are starting to get lonely.

4. Do you plan outfits? Considering I wear scrubs almost everyday, there's not much to plan. But when I'm packing for a vacation and I do have to plan outfits, I usually have a mental breakdown. Ask Brett! I'm REALLY bad!!

5. How are you feeling RIGHT now? Tired! It's been a long day at work and I've been going to bed WAY to late. We're talking in the a.m. region!

6. What’s the closest thing to you that's red? The pen sitting on my computer keyboard.

7. Tell me about the last dream you remember having? OMG, my mom got sucked into a drain at the bottom of a pool and I couldn't pull her back out. I watched her face as she drowned. It was AWFUL! That image is burned into my mind, and I CAN'T get it out.

8. Did you meet anybody new today? New patients. Does that count?

9. What are you craving right now? My hubby! I miss his snuggles and smiling face.

10. Do you floss? Yes. My teeth and others'!

11. What comes to mind when I say cabbage? What?! Weird question. I guess my father-in-law and his corned beef and cabbage.

12. Are you emotional? Depends on what the subject is.

13. Have you ever counted to 1,000? Hehe, when I can't fall asleep I start counting backwards from 1000. It works every time! Thanks to my Uncle Larry for this trick.

14. Do you bite into your ice cream or just lick it? Are you kidding?? Neither. I DEVOUR it!

15. Do you like your hair? Considering I just got it done yesterday, I couldn't be happier with it! There is nothing better than a just-finished cut and color.

16. Do you like yourself? Um, I guess so?! That would be sad if I didn't.

17. Would you go out to eat with George W. Bush? Sure, why not?

18. What are you listening to right now? The radio playing thru the office, the phone ringing off the hook, and a dental drill buzzing away in the background.

19. Are your parents strict? Let's just say they were much more strict with me than they are with my younger bro and sis. I guess it's an oldest child thing.

20. Would you go sky diving? Already have. It was AWESOME!!

21. Do you like cottage cheese? I like ANY kind of cheese. :)

22. Have you ever met a celebrity? I saw Steven Spielberg in the LA airport. And I got caught talking smack about Russel M Nelson behind his back and then had to ride in an elevator with him. Long story!

23. Do you rent movies often? Redbox is a constant must. Love the free codes!

24. Is there anything sparkly in the room you're in? Hmmm....my hygiene instruments are pretty sparkly and clean. Also I'm drinking a bottle of Sparkletts water. Does that count?!

25. How many countries have you visited? Mexico, Haiti, Jamaica, Bahamas, Grand Cayman. So, five!

26. Have you made a prank phone call? Most definitely. Probably too many to count. Is that bad?!

27. Ever been on a train? Yep, a few times. And I'll be taking a five hour trip on one in a few months from Upstate NY into Manhattan. Can't wait!

28. Brown or white eggs? White.

29. Do you have a cell-phone? I'd be lost without it.

30. Do you use Chap Stick? Yep, where would I be without my Burt's Bees? This is the ONLY thing bees are good for, btw. Otherwise, I wish all bees would DIE!!

31. Do you own a gun? Um, no. And I don't plan on getting one anytime soon.

32. Can you use chop sticks? Haha! I can barely handle a fork sometimes!

33. Who are you going to be with tonight? My softball team and my dogs. Game tonight, then home to an empty house to snuggle with my animals.

34. Are you too forgiving? Of Brett, most definitely. I can't stay mad at him for very long. It's just TOO hard!

35. Ever been in love? Madly, with the boy mentioned above.

36. What is your best friend(s) doing tomorrow? Something along the lines of removing ingrown toenails, suturing surgical wounds, and inspecting genital warts. Sounds fun, huh?

37. Ever have cream puffs? Not unless they're dipped in chocolate. YUM!

38. Last time you cried? During an AMAZING R.S. lesson at my in-laws ward a few weekends ago. But considering it's been 1 1/2 years since I've been to a R.S. lesson, (No, I'm not inactive; I'm in Sunbeams) probably any lesson that actually references scripture and talks about more than flowers or sharing would have seemed amazing to me.

39. What was the last question you asked? "Is my patient here yet?" If you can't tell, I'm doing this at work. Probably shouldn't be, but I've got a few minutes to spare.

40. Favorite time of the year? I think EVERYONE knows my answer to this question. There will be a permanent smile on my face for the next several months. Summer is here!!

41. Do you have any tattoos? Only when I get bored and draw on myself.

42. Are you sarcastic? Hmm...I guess sometimes. Mostly I don't like sarcasm though, because it's usually something mean, and I truly believe there is ALWAYS some truth in sarcasm.

43. Have you ever seen The Butterfly Effect? Yeah. Do I remember the story line? No, not really.

44. Ever walked into a wall? Haha! Only a few times a day! I have permanently stubbed toes and never-ending bruises. I've got to be the clumsiest person on earth!

45. Favorite color? Mustard yellow and hot pink!

46. Have you ever slapped someone? Anytime I try to punch or hit someone (for fun, I've never hit anyone out of anger), I usually end up getting hurt worse. Again, the clumsy thing!

47. Is your hair curly? If not styled properly it has a nasty frizzy wave. Trust me, it's not pretty.

48. What was the last CD you bought? No clue! I just download illegally. But shhh....don't tell!

49. Do looks matter? Not sure, but my little bro just got voted "Best Hair" for his graduating class, so I think for his sake, we better say at least a little. :)

50. Could you ever forgive a cheater? Depends on what they are cheating on.

51. Is your phone bill sky high? No, it's super cheap actually. Love Sprint!

52. Do you like your life right now? I couldn't be happier. Every day I wonder why I am so amazingly blessed. And I keep waiting for everything to just come crashing down at once.

53. Do you sleep with the TV on? Only when I fall asleep on Brett's lap because he is watching one of his dumb shows that I refuse to watch.

54. Can you handle the truth? As long as it's good news.

55. Do you have good vision? Let's just say I have to be within a foot of the eye chart to see the large E at the top.

56. Do you hate or dislike more than 3 people? Hate is a very strong word. I don't HATE anyone. But I definitely have some patients that I would prefer not to see. :)

57. How often do you talk on the phone? Lots. But I probably text just as much as I talk.

58. The last person you held hands with? My cute hubby, a week and a half ago while he was driving me back to the airport after my quick weekend trip to visit him in UT.

59. What are you wearing? Black and lt. pink scrub top with lt. pink scrub pants. Like I said earlier, I spend most of my days in scrubs.

60. What is your favorite animal? My cute little dogs definitely. If I had to pick ONE, Kenzie. But don't tell Tucker. He might get sad!

62. Can you hula hoop? Yeah, esp. when given the proper audience. :)

63. Do you have a job? Scraping plaque of other people's choppers.

64. What was the most recent thing you bought? The cutest gladiator sandals and dinner from Paradise Bakery.

65. Have you ever crawled through a window? Car windows, but not house windows. They're too large. Takes the fun out of it! :)

Baby Lovin'

I'm seriously loving all the baby lovin' I've been getting lately. Three weekends ago, I got to fly to Vegas to visit this little baby and her parents.

Two weekends ago, this little baby came to visit and stay with me for the weekend with his mom and older sister.

And then last weekend, I got to fly to Utah to visit this new baby and her family.
Thanks to everyone for having cute little babes I can snuggle and love...and then hand over when they start screaming or need their bums changed. :)

The Irony of Gender

Brett likes to say that I have "girl crushes" because I'm constantly pointing out girls with cute outfits or cute hairdos. I like to say that I'm just taking mental notes on how to make MYSELF look cuter. Despite the reason that I do this, my hobby recently took a very ironic turn.

I was shopping at my favorite new Forever 21 (this seems to be a recurring theme!) when I saw the CUTEST girl walk past me. She was taller than me, thinner than me, had a beautiful complexion, the cutest long black hair (even though it was obviously extensions), and the most adorable dress and boots I have EVER seen! I was thinking about asking her where she got her boots from, but decided it might seem odd to chase after her for some shopping advice. About half an hour later as I was perusing another section, I overheard a man talking about his $200 sweat suit. I looked up because I was curious to see what kind of man buys, or is even INTERESTED in, a $200 sweat suit. Well, apparently one who also likes to pretend he's a girl. Yes, the chick that I had been oogling over was actually a dude!!!
(To my credit, I have since taken three different people there, all of whom thought she was beautiful and were convinced I was wrong until they heard her speak. In case you are thinking I'm still mistaken, I've also had confirmation from another Forever 21 employee.)

So now I'm wondering, should that be considered a "girl crush" or a "boy crush?" Hmmm.....

My Newest Addictions and Obsessions

Isn't there a saying, "Variety is the spice of life?" Well, I guess this means my life doesn't have much flavor. I tend to find things I absolutely love and stick with them. Brett says that I either love something...or I DON'T! So true!!

So in celebration of this, I make a toast to some of my newest obsessions...

*Softball - With my slowpitch team winning 21-1 yesterday, and my fastpitch league starting tomorrow, I just CANNOT get enough softball lately. A glance at all the bruises and scrapes on my legs will confirm this.

*Wholly Guacamole - Can I just say, one of the best food items on this planet. I HATED guacamole until my mom made me try this. Now I'm obsessed. Fortunately you can purchase it in 100 Cal. packs so I don't end up eating the whole box in one sitting.

*Rock Band - You know you're addicted to Rock Band when every party or get-together MUST begin with a session of Rock Band. We even have matching T's for one of our bands! Check Kalie's list to see if you are addicted to Rock Band too.

*Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper - I know I said this was a post about NEW addictions, and everyone knows this is NOT a new addiction for me, but I had to add it simply because... they discontinued it! GASP!!! I'm so upset! They replaced it with Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper. I guess I'll have to stock up on Diet Vanilla flavoring to add to it. Or I could just harass Coca Cola until they bring it back. I like the second idea! :)

*Mustard Yellow - I currently own 3 (yes three!) pairs of shoes in this horribly AMAZING color and I can somehow seem to make them work with almost every outfit. That make sense though, since I also own a pair of earrings, 2 necklaces, and an ENDLESS number of shirts in this color. Oh, and did I mention I'm redoing our master bedroom in the color too. Don't worry, it's cuter than it sounds.

*Vacations - Again, not a new obsession, but I put it on the list because they seem to be coming in full force lately. Brett and I have a hard time turning down the chance to go on vacation, so including our trip to CA three weeks ago and my trip to Vegas this weekend, we currently have 9 possible vacations planned for the next few months. These include CA, Vegas, Utah, NYC, Philadelphia, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Zion's NP. Ridiculous, I know!

*My Gym - I know this sounds crazy, but I have very recently become addicted to working out. After a 3 year hiatus I am back at the gym and loving it more than ever. I plan my days around my workouts. I love my new little gym where I now recognize 1/3 of the people, where I know I won't get hit on or starred at, and where I pay only $11 a month!

*Skinny Jeans - I was never a fan, until I tried on a pair for myself. Now I can't stop wearing them. Who would have thought?

*Calcium Chews - In an effort to get me to consume more calcium (I don't drink milk), Brett found me some children's calcium supplements that taste just like Sour Patch Kids. I think I now get 300% of my daily value because I eat them like candy. He might need to put them under lock and key soon.

*The New 2-Story Forever 21 - I never knew that ONE store could put a smile on my face for weeks. I have already spent countless hours here, including standing in line on opening day for 2 hours to get a free gift card, and it's all worth it. It gives me a little glimpse of my beloved NYC shopping.

So...what are YOU currently obsessed with???

Bothered

Yesterday I was forced to do something that goes against everything I've been taught since childhood. I was required to purposefully do a BAD job, to not give 100%...and it's driving me CRAZY!!

Yesterday at work I had a patient come in that had not had her teeth cleaned in a year, and in this time, her once maintained gingivitis had progressed into full-fledged periodontal disease. I explained to the patient about the infection in her gums and the necessity of a deeper cleaning to remove the debris and bacteria from the roots of her teeth. She acknowledged the disease, but because she did not currently have a job or insurance to help cover the cost of the deeper cleaning, the patient stated that she just wanted a "regular cleaning." I explained to the patient the consequences of these actions, but she again declined the procedure and agreed to sign a Refusal of Treatment form. I was then compelled to do a VERY POOR job of cleaning her teeth. I knew that the patient had significant bone loss around her teeth and I could feel the debris up on her roots, but legally I was not able to remove it. I wanted so badly to remove all the debris and infection anyway, but this would have taken hours and was not what the patient wanted or was paying for. The crowns of her teeth are now very clean, but below her tissues is a raging infection, that if left untreated, will ultimately lead to the loss of her teeth. Although I did exactly what the patient told me to do, I feel like I failed her.

I guess I never knew that purposefully doing less than the best of my ability would bother me so much.

What were we THINKING

when Kim and I decided that we could actually do a Bikram Yoga class?! (This is no ordinary yoga class. Think one-and-a-half hours of intense yoga poses in a 105* heated sauna room.) I sweated out 5 lbs of water! I almost passed out...twice! What were we THINKING?! We got yelled at for talking, posing incorrectly, and forgetting to bring mats. It made me so sore, I could barely move for days after. What were we THINKING?!
And now, even as I write this, I'm ACTUALLY contemplating finding a Bikram Yoga studio here in Arizona. Seriously, WHAT AM I THINKING?!

(Also, what am I thinking posting these HORRIBLE pictures of myself?)
